Architecture determines how data, services and processes relate across an application. A poor function may remain contained to one file, and a poor execution model or data structure can shape every feature that follows and make later changes depend on the same weak foundation.

A simple web application may begin with a request, a database lookup and a response. Complexity arrives as the application adds queues, background workers, notifications and several forms of coordination. Coding agents can build these layers so quickly that an early architectural choice becomes deeply embedded before its consequences are clear, at which point users, integrations and stored data make that choice harder to reverse.

Architectural judgement develops through maintaining production software and seeing where it fails, since operating an event-driven application for several years reveals problems that a description will miss. AI can reduce the cost of correction because an existing product provides testable features, live data and a reference for the replacement. The same generation speed can embed a weak data model or execution pattern across an entire codebase within weeks, long before anyone has accumulated the experience needed to recognise it.
